A gold inventory in CS2 almost always starts with one image — the AWP | Dragon Lore. It costs as much as a used car, and in this article it only appears as a dream at the very end. The good news is that a whole family of gold skins has grown up around the "Dragon Lore," and you can build a cohesive loadout in this palette for well under a hundred dollars.
Below are three loadouts: a starter with six guns, a mid-range one with a gold knife, and a full one with knife and gloves in the same palette. Plus a list of the most common mistakes people make with gold.
What makes an inventory gold
The Lore family. After the Dragon Lore, Valve released the Lore finish for knives: gold engraving on the blade in the same style. It's the best gold knife in the game, and it has a property rare for expensive finishes — it exists in Field-Tested. So you can choose your wear, and even FT stays gold. The cheapest entry is Shadow Daggers | Lore for $43.2.
Tiger Tooth. The second gold knife finish — yellow-orange with tiger stripes. It only comes in Factory New and Minimal Wear and looks brighter than Lore, but it leans toward yellow rather than noble gold.
Brass and bronze on pistols. Glock-18 | Brass and Desert Eagle | Bronze Deco are two of the most accurate gold matches in the whole database. The first costs as much as a regular skin, the second costs literally pennies.
Another quirk of gold is the M4 slot. Where purple or green have one or two options there, gold has more than ten: from the budget M4A4 | 龍王 (Dragon King) to the M4A1-S | Golden Coil. This color has almost no weak slots.
Loadout under $70
Guns only, Field-Tested:
- AK-47 | Inheritance — $23. Gold patterns on a dark handguard. Accurate gold on an AK costs thousands of dollars, while the Inheritance gives you the right palette at a reasonable price.
- M4A4 | 龍王 (Dragon King) — $10.7. A golden dragon that reads well even in FT.
- AWP | Black Nile — $1.8. Black and gold in an Egyptian style; cheaper than any other gold AWP, but with an excellent match.
- Desert Eagle | Bronze Deco — $0.3. Bronze art deco geometry.
- USP-S | Ancient Visions — $20.2. The priciest item in the loadout and also the most accurate color match among USPs.
- Glock-18 | Ramese's Reach — $8.8. An Egyptian theme that echoes the Black Nile.
Total around $65. If you need it even cheaper, Glock-18 | Glockingbird ($0.6) also stays in the yellow range and saves you a couple of dollars.
Loadout under $190
Here we make three swaps and add a knife:
- Gut Knife | Lore — $67.6. Lore in Field-Tested, with the same engraving as the expensive models. If you don't like the Gut, Shadow Daggers | Lore is even cheaper.
- M4A1-S | Golden Coil — $51.2 instead of the Dragon King. A golden snake on black — the most accurate gold in the M4 slot among affordable options.
- Glock-18 | Brass — $20.6 instead of Ramese's Reach. A near-perfect color match.
- AK, AWP, Deagle and USP — from the first loadout.
Total around $185. The gloves are still default: a gold knife with black-and-gold guns already looks complete.
Knife and gloves loadout under $720
- Karambit | Lore — $526. The main gold knife in CS2 and essentially the Dragon Lore's little brother. In Field-Tested the engraving is still crisp; better not go any lower.
- Driver Gloves | Queen Jaguar — $39.7. A jaguar print in golden brown; it nicely supports the dark details of the Lore and Black Nile.
- Guns — from the mid-range loadout: Inheritance, Golden Coil, Black Nile, Bronze Deco, Ancient Visions, Brass.
Total around $690. Want it cheaper? Take the Bayonet | Lore ($153): same style, and the loadout drops to roughly $320. Instead of the Queen Jaguar, Hand Wraps | Giraffe ($34) also work — they're even closer to gold, but not everyone likes wraps.
The three loadouts compared
| Budget | What's included | Total |
|---|
| under $70 | Inheritance, Dragon King, Black Nile, Bronze Deco, Ancient Visions, Ramese's Reach | ≈ $65 |
|---|
| under $190 | Gut Knife Lore + Golden Coil, Brass and the other guns | ≈ $185 |
|---|
| under $720 | Karambit Lore, Driver Gloves Queen Jaguar + mid-range guns | ≈ $690 |
|---|

What to avoid
- Lore in Battle-Scarred. Unlike Doppler finishes, Lore really does wear off. At heavy wear the engraving darkens and the knife turns grey-brown. Saving on wear here hits the color directly.
- Flip Knife | Lore and Huntsman Knife | Lore. They look gold in previews, but the pattern sits differently on these models, and the color match is noticeably worse than on the Karambit, Bayonet or Gut.
- Specialist Gloves | Foundation. The most battered copy is cheap, but in Field-Tested the price jumps to $768, and the color is more sandy yellow anyway. You're overpaying for what the Giraffe gives you cheaper.
- Moto Gloves | Boom! — yellow-red comic art, not gold. Plus the same price gap between cheap wear and FT.
- M4A4 | Howl. A legend, but its color is orange-red. In a gold loadout it'll look like a foreign blot, and it costs many times more than the entire full loadout with a Karambit.
- AWP | Medusa and Glock-18 | Fade. They often pop up in "gold" lists, but the first is stone-green and the Fade is rainbow. Both are expensive and both dilute the palette.
If you want to go bigger
- AWP | Dragon Lore — $5,855. The dream itself: if you have it, the rest of the inventory is built around it.
- AK-47 | Gold Arabesque — $1,111. The most accurate gold on an AK in the game; it fills the only compromise slot.
- Desert Eagle | Golden Koi — $168. A golden koi on black, a perfect match for the Black Nile and Golden Coil.
- M9 Bayonet | Lore — $436. An alternative to the Karambit for those who prefer a classic grip.
A parting tip
With gold, choose your wear deliberately: in purple or green loadouts many knives only come in FN/MW, but here Lore is sold in every wear, and FT is the line below which the gold fades. The full selection is on the gold CS2 skins page, with separate pages for gold knives and gold gloves. Other colors are in the CS2 skin sets by color section.
